Vestibular Testing for Children Developmentally 7 Years and Older: What to Expect
Is your child scheduled for a vestibular test? Vestibular testing evaluates the parts inside the ears that help control balance. In this video, our experts at the Pediatric Balance and Vestibular Disorders Clinic demonstrate each test, explain how it works and what to expect before, during and after.
Our audiologists can perform the following tests:
• Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP) test
• Video head impulse test (vHIT)
• Oculomotor tests
• Rotational chair testing
• Subjective visual vertical (SVV) test`
• High-frequency headshake test
• Dix-Hallpike test
• Static positional testing
• Caloric testing
Some children may feel briefly dizzy or tired after vestibular testing. This is normal. There are simple ways you can help them feel better such as offering fluids, rest and extra comfort. Watch the video to help prepare for your visit.
