Vestibular Testing for Children Developmentally Under Age 7: What to Expect

Is your baby or young child scheduled for a vestibular test? In this video, our experts at the Pediatric Balance and Vestibular Disorders Clinic walk you through what to expect at their appointment. Vestibular testing evaluates the parts inside the ears that help control balance. Watch as our experts demonstrate each test and explain how it works. Depending on your child’s age and needs, we offer the following tests:
• Vestibular evoked myogenic potentials (VEMP)
• Video head impulse testing (vHIT)
• Rotational chair testing

Some children may feel briefly dizzy or tired after vestibular testing. This is normal. There are simple ways you can help them feel better such as offering fluids, rest and extra comfort. Watch the video to help prepare for your visit.
