Help Kids Manage Stress: Box Breathing with Red Balloon
This video guides your child through box breathing using simple instructions and a red balloon graphic. Box breathing, sometimes called square breathing, is a technique that can help children and teens manage stressful situations and big emotions.
Your child can learn to practice box breathing anytime. Teach them to inhale slowly through their nose for 4 counts, hold their breath for 4 counts, exhale slowly through their mouth for 4 counts and then hold again for 4 counts. This technique helps slow the heart rate, relax the body and give the mind something else to focus on.
