Sedation for Children’s Dental Care
Sedation may be necessary for some children’s dental care to reduce pain, anxiety and ensure they stay still during the procedure. Sedation medication makes children sleepy but doesn’t put them into a deep sleep, which shouldn’t affect their ability to answer questions, their heart function or their breathing.
In our clinics, we use drinkable medicine or nasal spray to sedate patients for a medical procedure. Your child’s dentist may recommend sedation, but only when necessary. They typically recommend it for older children who can talk, aren’t in need of a lot of dental work and who don’t have any major health concerns.
