The Connection Journey: One Family Supports Another Through the Tonsillectomy Journey
“The nighttime was just rough. I never anticipated that.” Hear the story of one family’s experience with tonsillectomy.
Children’s Hospital Colorado has a unique program called The Connection Journey that connects families who are experienced in managing certain medical conditions for their child with families who are new to the experience. The experienced families have children who have gone through certain medical treatments so they are very familiar with the process and how it can affect a family at home. They have valuable advice and tips to share with the new family.
In this video, we bring together a family who has gone through the tonsillectomy experience with a family who is about to go through it. The experienced family provides support and answers to questions for the new family. This support empowers them to move forward with less anxiety and fear as they enter a new medical experience at Children’s Colorado.
After having two kids go through tonsillectomy at the same time, the experienced family knows what tonsillectomy entails – both at the hospital and at home. In sharing their experience with tonsillectomy surgery, they share that nighttime pain was a big surprise to them. They didn’t realize it would be so tough. They found out that a big part of at-home care after a tonsillectomy was going to be managing pain throughout the night.
