Bariatric surgery is becoming more popular as a treatment for severe obesity in teens. Research efforts lead by Thomas Inge, MD, compared weight loss among the three most popular types of bariatric surgery. Two of the surgeries were found to result in greater weight loss, including the most common surgery Children’s Hospital Colorado performs, the vertical sleeve gastrectomy.
