Intuition as an improvement to your training

Based on what do you decide what and how to train? We normally follow strict guidelines and recommendations that we have read or heard somewhere. And so we tend to be firmly convinced that they are good. But are they really? Something you should ask yourself more often. Because instead of believing everything in your head, sometimes you should listen to what your instinct says. Because intuition has real superpowers. And if you give it a little (more) attention, you’ll take your fitness training to a whole new level.

You should also not trust that second voice in your head, the voice of your laziness, because it has nothing to do with intuition. The good news is that even this one can be cunningly fooled.

What is intuition?

The term intuition derives from the Latin word “intueri”, which means “to look more closely” or “to listen more carefully”. Intuition is usually dominated by a head with a lot of noise, quite know-it-all and that classifies this knowledge as absolute truths. But while your head thinks it all, your instinct far outstrips it when it comes to speed. You don’t always have to understand intuition, it can’t be guided or controlled. Today you are overwhelmed by opinions, recommendations and specifications. Everyone thinks they know what the best workout is. But only YOU know what is best for you, or rather your intuition. If you learn to pay more attention to it and trust it, you will find that exercise is fun for you and increases your motivation. You will be more efficient and not only will you improve your training, but you will also be able to control your daily life more easily. Trusting hunches can be something you should practice. You also don’t need to immediately turn all your training plans upside down. 1.Swap tighter training plans for more flexibility

Of course, it takes some planning to achieve your goals. But as they say, plans exist to not fulfill them. At least from time to time. And this also goes for your training plan. It’s nice to have it and it’s certainly a good orientation, but stop more often to ask yourself if it’s what suits you right now and what will make you feel good. Do not do what is in your training plan, but let your instinct decide. If you notice that a bout of jogging is going to do you better than strength training, go for it!

2.Make sure you get a varied workout

Instead of just lifting weights in the gym because you “have” to, you should try changing more. Dare to sign up for a class, go for a run or meet your friends for a HIIT workout. Not doing the same exercise every day helps you to be more aware of your body in different situations and, therefore, to pay more attention to your own intuition.

3.Try something new more often

Trying something new forces you to get out of your comfort zone. It is not always pleasant, but it is something that connects you much better with your perception. The unknown challenge heightens your presence and awareness. On the other hand, this beautiful phrase already says it: if you never try, you will never know. Therefore, try something new. 4.Find a sport you like

5.Find your WHY

With your hand on your heart: what do you really train for? Is it because you should? Why do you think you need to lose weight or burn calories? Then forget it. Or, at least, go saying goodbye little by little to it. Because turning off that voice is not easy. But you can allow your intuition to gain a voice of its own. Focus on the feeling of well-being that movement produces in you. Remember that moving is good for your body. Don’t let the WHY of your training be a mandatory program, but something you do just for you.

6.Ask yourself: how do you feel after training?

A question that you should definitely ask yourself. How do you feel after training? What makes you move? Observe it without judging yourself for it. To increase your motivation, focus on the positive feelings that the exercise session has left you with so that they motivate you for the next workout.
