Primary Care Pathway for Suicide Assessment

Youth at risk for suicide often turn to primary care first for help. Our Suicide Prevention program provides practical training and consultation to help healthcare professionals implement an evidence-informed youth suicide prevention care pathway and deliver suicide-safer care. This video zeroes in on the assessment step: what to ask, how to say it and how to determine the level of risk in a supportive, family‑centered way.
This video is part of a larger pathway that also covers screening and follow‑up, allowing you to confidently move from assessment to action.

About the program:
The Pathway to Suicide Prevention supports primary care teams with step-by-step implementation, tools and consultation to build consistent processes for screening, assessment and safety planning. To learn more or request training, visit Pediatric Mental Health Institute at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger or thinking about suicide, call or text 988 (U.S.) to reach the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline or contact local emergency services.
