Pediatric cardiologist Samantha Holmes, MD, also works as a fetal cardiologist, which means she gets to care for expecting families during an especially important time in their lives.
“You get to be there at a time where there’s a lot of excitement,” she says, “but there’s also a lot of anxiety.” Evaluating echocardiograms and fetal imaging is one part of her job, but Dr. Holmes says being there for parents at this stage is the part of her job she cherishes the most.
“I really enjoy being able to council these families and being able to guide them through what the rest of pregnancy is going to look like and what things will look like after birth,” she says. “I feel like I’ve done a good job if they are as prepared as they can possibly be for the journey that lies ahead.”
