Meet Our Doc: Nicole Baumer, MD: Leading Care at the Sie Center for Down Syndrome
Nicole Baumer, MD, shares her vision for our Anna and John J. Sie Center for Down Syndrome at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Dr. Baumer became passionate about pursuing a career as a pediatrician for children who have neurodevelopmental disabilities. She was inspired to provide that care because of her experience having a sister with Down syndrome. As the director of the Sie Center, Dr. Baumer ensures that every child with Down syndrome receives comprehensive, compassionate and individualized care. From early development through adolescence, the Sie Center team works with families to give every child the chance to thrive. “Each child and each family has a unique story and a unique journey, and it’s a privilege to be a part of that,” Dr. Baumer says. Dr. Baumer highlights the center’s focus on recognizing strengths, embracing individual potential and providing tailored therapies that support every child. She discusses how the center’s collaboration with advocacy and research groups allows pediatricians to bring scientific discoveries directly to patients. “It’s what makes this whole model so effective and what will allow us to have the greatest impact for people with Down syndrome,” she says.
