Split-Thickness Skin Graft
A skin graft is a procedure in which healthy skin is taken from one part of the body and placed over injured skin on a different part of the body. The healthy skin then grows to replace the injured skin. This technique is often used for burn injuries. Split-thickness skin grafts help the body heal faster and reduce long-term scarring.
Split-thickness skin grafts use a thinner layer of donor skin to be placed on the injured skin. In split-thickness skin grafts, the top layer of the skin (epidermis) and part of the second layer of the skin (dermis) are used for the donor skin.
