Osiel’s Cochlear Implant: Every Sound Has a Story
For a child with difficulty hearing, cochlear implants can seem like magic. This amazing technology connects the outside world of sound to a child’s mind through their auditory nerve.
Pediatric cochlear implantation is a process that takes several steps to fine-tune the device and ensure it helps children hear the best they can. Osiel isn’t hearing for the first time, but he experienced sound in a very different way than ever before when our pediatric audiologist performed the cochlear implant activation. This step takes place after cochlear implant surgery, when the audiologist “turns on” the implant and it begins to send signals that are translated into sound for Osiel. Throughout the process, the audiologist adjusts volume and frequency so Osiel can hear sound as accurately as possible.
