NICU Safe Sleep: Progressing Toward Home
Safe sleep is important for all infants, but that may look different for babies in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
As your baby’s development and medical needs change, so can their safe sleep practices. While in the NICU, your baby may need breathing or positioning devices in their crib. But when your baby progresses toward going home, it’s time to implement at-home safe sleep practices such as lying flat on their back, in a sleep sack or swaddle and with nothing in their crib including blankets or stuffed animals.
In this video, see how lying flat on their back protects your baby from choking and how this milestone ensures a smooth transition to sleeping at home.
