Day in the Life: Respiratory Therapist at Children’s Hospital Colorado

As a respiratory therapist, Meliza has seen first-hand the impact she can have on patients and families. Now, as clinical manager in respiratory therapy, Meliza is making an impact on new team members through our Pediatric Respiratory Therapy Fellowship.

“The Respiratory Therapy Fellowship program is a curriculum-based educational program that we developed here at Children’s Colorado with the intention of preparing team members with different backgrounds, whether they’re new to respiratory or experienced, to be able to provide high-quality care to the pediatric population,” Meliza says.

Most respiratory therapy education programs focus primarily on adult healthcare. But pediatrics is different. The goal of this program is to share tools and resources to help new respiratory therapists gain the skills and training they need so they can feel confident in caring for kids.

“The fellowship program brought me confidence to become a bedside therapist, but also to become a member of the chronic care team,” says Meagan, a respiratory therapist who participated in the program.
