Meet Our Doc: Kathryn Chatfield, MD, Genetic Pediatric Cardiologist
The more we understand how genetics affects pediatric conditions, the better we can treat them. When it comes to the heart, understanding genetics can have a huge impact.
As Director of the Cardiac Genetics Clinic, Kathryn Chatfield, MD, combines her interests of cardiology and genetics to provide advanced pediatric heart care to her patients.
“I think the heart is a fascinating organ,” says Dr. Chatfield. “And it is something that we can actually fix.”
By understanding genetics, Dr. Chatfield says that we can almost always offer new and better treatment solutions to children with genetic differences that affect the heart.
“In some cases, we find a genetic difference in a child that has had very dramatic impacts on how that patient is cared for or it’s allowed them to get care that is potentially lifesaving,” says Dr. Chatfield. “We want to do the best that we can for that child, and we feel like this information is really critical to doing the best possible job we can to take care of them.”
