“Neurosurgery fascinates me because of everything we’re able to do and everything left to understand,” says neurosurgeon Dr. Derek Samples.
The sheer magnitude of what we know about the brain and what we can do through surgery drives Dr. Samples, every day, week and year. As a neurosurgeon, he also understands that there is a lot about the brain we still don’t know. Rather than seeing that as a downside, he sees potential for even more incredible things we have yet to uncover.
“Getting to see the kids every day get better and change from some of the most terrifying experiences in their life for them and their families is what gets me through to the next day, and the next week, and the next child,” says Dr. Samples.
