While everyone can benefit from genetic testing, we strongly recommend kids with certain special circumstances get cardiac genetic testing. This includes any child born with structural differences in their heart, congenital heart disease or cardiomyopathies, which are conditions that affect the heart muscle.
Because parents pass genes to their children, it’s also important to test children whose parents or siblings may have a heart condition. If your family has a history of genetic heart diseases, your children are prime candidates for cardiac genetic testing. The more information we know, the better we can treat children and even take a proactive approach that can mean a world of difference.
