Initial Diagnosis at Surgical Oncology Program

Our pediatric surgeons and oncologists are dedicated to taking care of children who have solid tumors. An accurate diagnosis is the first step to healthy treatment.

When you first come to our Surgical Oncology Program looking for a diagnosis, our experts perform several diagnostic tests and imaging studies, which can include a biopsy, blood work, labs and imaging. After testing, our multidisciplinary team meets to determine the best course of treatment, and decide which surgeon is best suited for care.

“We will see really any patient with a tumor diagnosis, either benign or malignant, that would need an operation,” says Dr. Jonathan Roach, pediatric surgeon.

As one of the highest volume centers in the country, our team has some of the most nationally recognized experience and can ensure the appropriate specialists are integrated into a patient’s complete care plan from the moment they walk through our doors.

“We focus on the surgical aspect,” says Anna Linton, physician assistant in our Surgical Oncology Program. “But really we focus on the patient as a whole and where surgery fits into their entire care.”
