Why Research Matters to the Surgical Oncology Program
Many cancers can be treated and cured but radiation, chemotherapy and surgery can take their toll. Through research, we continue to identify not only the best ways to treat cancers and tumors, but in the least harmful ways as well.
“New therapies are being developed almost every day,” says Dr. Jonathon Roach, pediatric surgeon at our Surgical Oncology Program. “Figuring out which therapies work is critical.”
We share our findings with many hospitals and academic institutions around the country through the Children’s Oncology Group to make important strides in cancer treatment and to ensure we can continue to offer groundbreaking treatment options for the patients we treat today and in the future.
As part of the Anschutz Medical Campus, we have a strong relationship with the University of Colorado Cancer Center.
“Our partnership allows us access to not only resources and infrastructure, but knowledge and expertise in how to conduct some of these critically important research studies,” says Dr. Roach.
