In preparation for surgery on your child’s cleft lip, your care team may ask you to tape your child’s cleft lip at home. Your baby’s skin and muscles are soft and can be molded slowly and gently to move the parts closer together. This can help make the cleft easier to fix with surgery.

You’ll also see how to remove the tape and wash the skin, as well as how to monitor your baby’s skin for irritation.
