Meet Our Doc: Austin Larson, MD, Pediatric Genetics and Inherited Metabolic Diseases Specialist
Austin Larson, MD, is a pediatric medical geneticist or as he calls it, a “medical detective”. Dr. Larson helps families and providers identify the underlying reasons behind a child’s symptoms.
“I feel really lucky I get to spend a lot of time with families,” says Dr. Larson. “I get to collaborate with genetic counselors and we get to really dive into both the family history and the details of all the symptoms a patient has been experiencing, all the way back to birth.”
Dr. Larson enjoys seeing a wide variety of symptoms and prioritizes understanding each patient’s goals and values. He offers genetic information in a way that not only assists doctors but empowers families to make the best decision for their child.
“I have kids of my own and I really identify with parents,” says Dr. Larson. “With the process of having a child that’s sick and just how difficult that can be, especially for kids that can’t put their symptoms into their own words.”
