In fact, it helps reduce two out of three culprits behind hair loss, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advancedtrichology.com\/pages\/william-gaunitz-trichologist-hair-loss-expert\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.advancedtrichology.com\/pages\/william-gaunitz-trichologist-hair-loss-expert\">William Gaunitz, FWTS<\/a>, certified trichologist and founder of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.advancedtrichology.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.advancedtrichology.com\">Advanced Trichology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreen tea has anti-inflammatory effects that can reduce inflammation that could lead to scalp problems, including dandruff and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/seborrheic-dermatitis\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20352710\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/diseases-conditions\/seborrheic-dermatitis\/symptoms-causes\/syc-20352710\">seborrheic dermatitis<\/a>,\u201d he explains. \u201cIt helps boost the immune system to fight off microbials and reduces the impact of <a href=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/articles\/24555-dht-dihydrotestosterone\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/my.clevelandclinic.org\/health\/articles\/24555-dht-dihydrotestosterone\">DHT<\/a> on the hair follicles, minimizing the effects of male and female pattern hair loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He recommends drinking green tea daily. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/how-to-brew-green-tea\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/how-to-brew-green-tea\/\">Bring out the kettle<\/a>!<\/p>\n<h3>Iron<\/h3>\n<p>Yep, according to Lofton, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/iron-deficiency\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/iron-deficiency\/\">iron deficiency<\/a> is a common cause of hair loss. \u201cIron is essential for hair health as it helps deliver oxygen to hair follicles and promotes the growth and repair of hair cells,\u201d she explains.<\/p>\n<p>To get more iron into your diet, incorporate foods like lean red meat, poultry, fish, beans, lentils, and fortified cereals, she says. And that\u2019s not all she encourages. \u201cAlso, by pairing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/foods-rich-in-iron\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/foods-rich-in-iron\/\">iron-rich foods<\/a> with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/foods-with-vitamin-c\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/foods-with-vitamin-c\/\">sources of vitamin C<\/a>, such as from citrus fruits, berries, and broccoli, you can enhance iron absorption and prevent potential hair loss.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As with any nutrients to help prevent hair loss, the amount you need will range, but the <a href=\"https:\/\/ods.od.nih.gov\/factsheets\/iron-consumer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/ods.od.nih.gov\/factsheets\/iron-consumer\/\">National Institutes of Health says<\/a> adults AFAB need 18 milligrams on average and adults AMAB need eight milligrams on average.<\/p>\n<h3>Vitamin D<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Colombo says this vitamin \u201cmay help with cell turnover and may help with regrowth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To get the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements-vitamin-d\/art-20363792\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/drugs-supplements-vitamin-d\/art-20363792\">recommended 600 international units daily<\/a> (for people between ages one and 70, at least), she says considering foods like cow milk, salmon, eggs, mushrooms, orange juice, and yogurt.<\/p>\n<h3>Probiotics<\/h3>\n<p>Another fun fact, according to Gaunitz: Gut health directly influences hair loss. He adds that antibiotics, consuming foods you\u2019re allergic to, and certain medications can compromise that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis can be reduced or eliminated by consuming <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/prebiotic-foods\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/prebiotic-foods\/\">foods that are high in probiotics and prebiotics<\/a>, including fermented foods, like kimchi and sauerkraut, as well as raw milk, [<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/kefir-smoothies\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/kefir-smoothies\/\">kefir<\/a>], and Icelandic yogurt,\u201d he says. On average, adults need <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/probiotic-foods-supplements-renew-life\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/probiotic-foods-supplements-renew-life\/\">up to 20 billion CFUs of probiotics a day<\/a>, so that amount may be the ticket!<\/p>\n<h3>Omega-3 fats<\/h3>\n<p>They&#8217;re important for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/mood-boosting-nutrients\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/mood-boosting-nutrients\/\">more than just mood<\/a>! \u201cDue to omega-3 fatty acids\u2019s anti-inflammatory properties, they play a role in nourishing hair follicles,\u201d Lofton says. Further, they help maintain scalp health, support the production of sebum (a substance that keeps the hair and scalp moisturized), and more, she adds.<\/p>\n<p>For some omega-3 friendly foods, you\u2019ll want to turn to fatty fish like salmon and mackerel, flaxseeds, walnuts, avocados, and olive oil, according to Lofton.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA typical recommendation for omega-3 fat intake is 1.1 grams per day for women and 1.6 grams per day for men,\u201d she adds, saying three ounces of Atlantic mackerel will cover about 93 percent of what people AFAB need and slightly over 60 percent of what people AMAB need, for example.<\/p>\n<p>But again, she emphasizes that what each person needs each day will vary based on their medications, age, medical history, and more, so working with a nutrition expert or health-care pro will help you ensure you\u2019re getting the proper amount of nutrients for your needs.<\/p>\n<div class=\"block-thin post-citations mt-[40px] mb-[30px]\" data-module-init=\"main-2020\/post-citations\" data-module-immediate=\"true\">\n<hr class=\"!border-seafoam-dark mb-[24px]\"\/>\n<div class=\"post-citations-content flex flex-col gap-[24px]\">\n<p>Well+Good articles reference scientific, reliable, recent, robust studies to back up the information we share.
