The sooner I can access insights as to what\u2019s going on with my body, the sooner I can adjust my day accordingly. With information on my sleep, recovery, training, and overall health, I can make better choices in <em>real-time<\/em>. But which vitals am I tracking specifically?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>First things first\u2014sleep. I closely track my overall Sleep Performance percentage, but also keep a close eye on what kind of sleep I\u2019m getting (specifically, deep sleep and REM sleep). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/deep-sleep-may-mitigate-effects-of-this-alzheimers-risk-factor\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/deep-sleep-may-mitigate-effects-of-this-alzheimers-risk-factor\" rel=\"noopener\">Deep sleep<\/a> is interwoven with cognitive health while <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-much-rem-sleep-do-you-need\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-much-rem-sleep-do-you-need\" rel=\"noopener\">REM sleep<\/a> is important for emotional regulation and memory consolidation\u2014and my <a href=\"https:\/\/join.whoop.com\/mindbodygreen\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/join.whoop.com\/mindbodygreen\" rel=\"noopener\">WHOOP<\/a> measures both with lab-level accuracy.<\/p>\n<p>The other important vital I check every morning is my WHOOP Recovery Score. This number indicates how my physiology responds to training, stress levels, lack of sleep, and even illness. (More than once, my <a href=\"https:\/\/join.whoop.com\/mindbodygreen\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/join.whoop.com\/mindbodygreen\" rel=\"noopener\">WHOOP<\/a> helped me figure out I was sick even before symptoms appeared.) Behind this recovery insight are other important data points I like to be aware of at the start of my day\u2014like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/hrv-what-it-is-and-what-impacts-it\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/hrv-what-it-is-and-what-impacts-it\" rel=\"noopener\">heart rate variability<\/a> (HRV), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-to-lower-resting-heart-rate#mbg-k3GTom4ovnC\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-to-lower-resting-heart-rate#mbg-k3GTom4ovnC\" rel=\"noopener\">resting heart rate<\/a> (RHR), respiratory rate, and body temperature.<\/p>\n<p>HRV measures the time between our heartbeats and gives insight into our autonomic nervous system. Generally speaking, a balanced nervous system will result in higher HRV whereas <a href=\"https:\/\/karger.com\/nps\/article\/82\/4\/187\/845046\/Heart-Rate-Variability-for-Evaluating\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/karger.com\/nps\/article\/82\/4\/187\/845046\/Heart-Rate-Variability-for-Evaluating\" rel=\"noopener\">stress is often associated with a lower HRV<\/a>. Resting heart rate, on the other hand, reflects the status of our heart rate at rest\u2014and a lower RHR is often <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30761923\/\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/30761923\/\" rel=\"noopener\">connected to longevity<\/a>.
