Another is actually <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3777290\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3777290\/\">dependency on this common-place stimulant<\/a>, which can cause emotional turmoil and even withdrawal symptoms when a caffeine habit isn\u2019t properly curbed.<\/p>\n<h2>So where is the sweet spot with caffeine?<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cFor most healthy adults, moderate caffeine consumption of between 300\u2013500 milligrams (mg) per day is considered safe and does not pose health risks for most individuals,\u201d offers Scott. \u201cHowever, individual sensitivity to caffeine varies, and some people may need to limit their intake to avoid negative effects.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5563313\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC5563313\/\">one study<\/a> found that caffeine intake over 500 mg per day was associated with diuretic effects. Given all this information, I personally don\u2019t often recommend anyone to regularly consume more than 300 mg of caffeine per day, which is somewhere between two and three cups of coffee, depending on how strong it\u2019s been brewed.<\/p>\n<p>Scott says to pay attention to how caffeine affects your body, and if you experience sleep disturbances, anxiety, or other adverse effects, consider reducing your intake and always consult a health-care professional if you have specific health concerns or questions about caffeine consumption.<\/p>\n<h2>9 foods with caffeine you may not realize<\/h2>\n<h3>Foods containing guarana<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/23981847\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/23981847\/\">Guarana<\/a> is a plant found in the Amazon rainforest that naturally contains caffeine. In fact, the seeds of this plant contain up to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4399916\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4399916\/\">four times the amount of caffeine<\/a> as coffee beans. So, if you see guarana on an ingredients list, know that you\u2019ll likely be getting a healthy dose of caffeine. Though, with that said, many products containing guarana are aimed at boosting energy levels, like energy drinks and supplements, so it\u2019s unlikely the effects of this plant will take you by surprise.<\/p>\n<h3>Decaffeinated coffee<\/h3>\n<p>Yes, you read that right, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/is-decaf-coffee-bad-for-you\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/is-decaf-coffee-bad-for-you\/\">decaffeinated coffee<\/a> can indeed contain caffeine.
