But the average American only gets around 16 grams of fiber per day, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ars.usda.gov\/ARSUserFiles\/80400530\/Pdf\/0910\/Table_1_Nin_Gen_09.Pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">USDA<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Can fiber water \u2014 a relative newcomer to the ever-growing wellness water market \u2014 help to close that gap? Dietary fiber can <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/dietary-fiber#:~:text=benefits%20of%20dietary%20fiber\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">help you feel satiated<\/a>, which may help to curb overeating.<\/p>\n<p>From fiber water to <a href=\"http:\/\/beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/fiber-supplements-shakeology-boost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fiber supplements<\/a>, people are looking for easy ways to incorporate this essential nutrient into their lifestyles.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere are 175,000 people per week searching for some type of fiber on Amazon,\u201d says Rusty Jones, co-founder of the fiber-infused beverage company <a href=\"https:\/\/hellowater.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hellowater<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Jones and co-founder Tom Bushkie, a certified nutritionist, developed Hellowater to meet what they saw as a white space in the beverage market.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe went to a food scientist with the idea of creating a high-fiber water in a ready-to-drink format that could act as an appetite suppressant,\u201d says Jones.<\/p>\n<p>Jones says his larger goal in developing fiber water was to help individuals manage their weight and promote healthy blood sugar levels.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFiber is a nutrient that <a href=\"https:\/\/medlineplus.gov\/dietaryfiber.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">aids with digestion<\/a> and helps manage <a href=\"https:\/\/www.health.harvard.edu\/blog\/fiber-full-eating-for-better-health-and-lower-cholesterol-2019062416819\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">healthy cholesterol and blood sugar levels<\/a>, which is why we need it,\u201d Jones explains.<\/p>\n<h2>What Exactly Is in Fiber Water?<\/h2>\n<p>There are two main types of dietary fiber:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Soluble fiber<\/strong> helps you feel full longer, aids in managing healthy cholesterol levels, and helps maintain healthy blood sugar levels.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Insoluble fiber<\/strong> is mostly responsible for adding bulk to your stool and keeping you regular.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Your body needs both types of fiber to aid in proper digestion.<\/p>\n<p>Fiber water is infused with soluble fiber, along with natural flavors and sweeteners. But is fiber water just a millennial spin on your grandma\u2019s fiber powder? Not exactly.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike traditional fiber supplements you mix into water, fiber water is clear, not gritty, and only contains soluble fiber.<\/p>\n<p>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/hellowater.com\/product\/love-cucumber-lime-hellowater\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the label<\/a>, a bottle of Hellowater Prebiotic Beverage delivers 5 grams of fiber \u2014 specifically, inulin derived from chicory root \u2014 per serving. But it shouldn\u2019t be your primary source of fiber.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To put it into perspective, a bottle of Hellowater has about the same amount of fiber as an <a href=\"https:\/\/fdc.nal.usda.gov\/fdc-app.html#\/food-details\/171688\/nutrients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">apple<\/a>. However, when you eat an apple with its peel, you\u2019re getting soluble\u00a0<i>and <\/i>insoluble fiber, as well as important antioxidants like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/5-vitamin-c-rich-foods-to-eat-that-arent-oranges\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">vitamin C<\/a>\u00a0and minerals like\u00a0potassium, King explains.<\/p>\n<p>Certain fiber supplements also provide both soluble and insoluble fiber. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teambeachbody.com\/shop\/us\/d\/shakeology-boost-digestive-health-SHKDigestiveBoost?refsource=Blog\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Shakeology Digestive Health Boost<\/a> supplies 7 grams of dietary fiber, including insoluble fiber from chia and flaxseed and soluble fiber from psyllium husk.<\/p>\n<h2>Should You Have Fiber and Water Together?<\/h2>\n<p>That said, drinking water with any\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/high-fiber-recipes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">high-fiber diet<\/a> is important. \u201cEven if you\u2019re eating a cup of carrots, it\u2019s important to have adequate fluids over the course of the day,\u201d says King. \u201cFluids help move things through the system.
