{"id":7490,"date":"2023-09-18T05:08:05","date_gmt":"2023-09-17T22:08:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/loudhdtv.com\/?p=7490"},"modified":"2023-09-18T05:08:05","modified_gmt":"2023-09-17T22:08:05","slug":"these-skin-benefits-of-exercising-may-motivate-you-to-work-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loudhdtv.com\/?p=7490","title":{"rendered":"These Skin Benefits of Exercising May Motivate You To Work Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"drop-cap text-big text-gray\"> <span class=\"drop-cap__first text-dropcap \">I<\/span>t\u2019s no secret that exercise is great for us physically and mentally, but it turns out the skin benefits of exercising go beyond a post-workout \u201cglow.\u201d While aerobic training has been found to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4531076\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC4531076\/\">improve skin health<\/a>, recent research finds that weightlifting could be even more effective in rejuvenating skin.<\/div>\n<p>A recent Japanese study divided a group of 61 healthy, sedentary, middle-aged women into two groups who exercised twice a week for 16 weeks\u2014one group did only an aerobic training program, the other only a resistance training program using weight machines\u2014in an attempt to differentiate the effects of each type of training on the skin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe effects of aerobic training and resistance training on our body are known to be different, i.e., resistance training specifically induces muscle hypertrophy [increased muscle size], whereas aerobic training improves cardiovascular fitness,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/research-db.ritsumei.ac.jp\/rithp\/k03\/resid\/S000664;jsessionid=C35C2812AA9E206F5AAF04BEFB4E3F3A?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/research-db.ritsumei.ac.jp\/rithp\/k03\/resid\/S000664;jsessionid=C35C2812AA9E206F5AAF04BEFB4E3F3A?lang=en\">Satoshi Fujita, PhD<\/a>, study co-author and professor with the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.ritsumei.ac.jp\/academics\/college-of-sports-health-science\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/en.ritsumei.ac.jp\/academics\/college-of-sports-health-science\/\">Faculty of Sport and Health Science at Ritsumeikan University<\/a> in Kyoto, Japan. \u201cSo, we hypothesized that aerobic training and resistance training have different effects on skin as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the study\u2019s 16 weeks, both groups experienced improved skin elasticity and upper dermal structure, but the group who solely did weight training also had <a href=\"https:\/\/clicks.trx-hub.com\/xid\/leafgroup_ca5e0_wellgood?q=https%3A%2F%2Fgo.skimresources.com%3Fid%3D104860X1561639%26xs%3D1%26xcust%3DSTMSFT-1112477%26url%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.nature.com%252Farticles%252Fs41598-023-37207-9&amp;p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wellandgood.com%2Fskin-benefits-exercising%2F&amp;event_type=click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/s41598-023-37207-9\">improved dermal thickness<\/a>. Most notably, only resistance training produced factors that increased the production of skin proteins including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3527886\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC3527886\/\">biglycan<\/a>. Researchers theorized that the increase in biglycan with resistance training may explain why only this type of training led to increased dermal thickness.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiglycan is an important component of skin protein known to decrease with age\u201d and sun exposure, says Dr. Satoshi, noting that, in animal studies, mice who didn\u2019t produce the protein had thinner dermises.<\/p>\n<h2>The skin benefits of exercising as part of your beauty routine<\/h2>\n<p>You\u2019re probably thinking, okay, all this is great but how much weightlifting do I need to do to make my skin look better? While study participants worked out twice a week doing three sets of 10 reps of progressively heavier loads on six weight-stack machines\u2014leg curl, leg extension, arm curl, row, shoulder press, and chest press\u2014Dr. Satoshi says it may be possible to see results even without that much training.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe believe that less resistance training also has an effect on the skin as muscle hypertrophy was not the main factor for skin improvement,\u201d he says. \u201cHowever, to induce an anti-inflammatory effect, we recommend weight training that works the larger muscles of the body, preferably both upper and lower body muscles.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Although study participants used weight machines, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/types-of-strength-training\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/types-of-strength-training\/\">resistance training<\/a> can be done with bands, kettlebells, or even your own body weight.
