Case in point: The heart rate\u2013based group fitness franchise <a href=\"https:\/\/clicks.trx-hub.com\/xid\/leafgroup_ca5e0_wellgood?q=https%3A%2F%2Forangetheory-fitness.sjv.io%2Fc%2F2372336%2F1644358%2F19084%3FsubId1%3DSTMSFT-1094623%26u%3Dhttps%253A%252F%252Fwww.orangetheory.com%252Fen-us&amp;p=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wellandgood.com%2Forangetheory-strength-training%2F&amp;event_type=click\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.orangetheory.com\/en-us\">Orangetheory<\/a> announced that it would begin offering a new class type this month, Strength 50. The 50-minute class uses weights, TRX straps, mini bands, bodyweight, and more to help students build muscle with proper form.<\/div>\n<p>This is a pretty big departure from the signature Orangetheory class, Orange 60, which has students cycle through blocks on the rower, the treadmill (or other cardio machine), and on the floor for functional resistance training. Every student wears a heart rate monitor, and the goal is to spend an optimized amount of time in different heart rate zones.<\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<div class=\"experts-in-article noskim py-[24px] px-[40px]\">\n<p>Experts In This Article<\/p>\n<ul class=\"!ml-[18px]\">\n<li> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/scott-brown-38a39433\/\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/scott-brown-38a39433\/\">Scott Brown<\/a>, vice president of fitness for Orangetheory Fitness <\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<hr\/>\n<p>Rather than focusing on heart rate zones, Strength 50 teaches strength fundamentals so that students can tackle the floor portion of Orange 60 classes with confidence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe main difference is that it\u2019s highly focused on that one element versus the three elements that we have in a normal class,\u201d says Scott Brown, Orangetheory\u2019s vice president of fitness. \u201cThere&#8217;s the ability for the member to focus on that thing because they&#8217;re not worried about what&#8217;s coming up next on the treadmill or having to move around the room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Orangetheory is just the latest boutique fitness studio to home in on strength training. When it launched in a limited beta earlier this year, the class quickly garnered a 10,000-person wait list.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think the main thing is it&#8217;s a maturing of the industry, a maturing of the literature, and then all of that starting to proliferate [from coaches to students]\u201d says Brown of strength training\u2019s growing popularity. \u201cWhat strength training delivers from a results standpoint, from a physiological standpoint, from a psychological standpoint, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/benefits-of-strength-training\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/benefits-of-strength-training\/\">those benefits<\/a>\u00a0have been known for a long time, but our ability to clearly express and communicate that to people, and again, debunk myths and get people aware of that, has grown.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Brown says that\u2019s especially true for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/weightlifting-women\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/weightlifting-women\/\">women<\/a>, who for so long were told to focus on \u201ctightening and toning,\u201d as Brown puts it. That\u2019s not the case anymore, and the Arnold Schwarzenegger-esque bodybuilder physique of the 80s and 90s is no longer the dominant image associated with building strength.<\/p>\n<p>Although weight rooms in traditional gyms have also been seeing more action lately, approaching strength through group fitness helps to make it a less isolated, more approachable endeavor, Brown says. Strength 50 classes are designed to be balanced, whole-body workouts, which can take some time to develop on your own if you&#8217;re new to strength training. Because these classes will all be focused on one modality, rather than having different groups rotate through three different workouts at the same time, Orangetheory coaches will be able to give more attention to ensuring correct form, and even keep an eye on the heart rate monitors to see how different moves are taxing their students.<\/p>\n<p>Overall, Brown sees Strength 50 as a \u201csupplement\u201d to the \u201cmultivitamin\u201d of Orange 60.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you&#8217;re confident in your form, everything becomes easier.\u201d Brown says.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1675549\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Strength training is burning orange hot right now.
