Too little sleep ages us biologically and undermines our mood and sense of well-being. Beginning in 2012, I downloaded a sleep app (after fracturing my shoulder skiing, which disrupted my sleep). I continue to monitor the stats and patterns each day to see what happens to my metabolism during the night. Sleep has a powerful impact on my metabolism, especially sugar and insulin control.<\/p>\n<p>After buying an Oura ring so I could <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/best-sleep-trackers\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/best-sleep-trackers\" rel=\"noopener\">monitor my sleep<\/a> more precisely, I saw a direct correlation between the nights I got the least deep sleep and higher sugar readings on my CGM. When I spend too few hours in bed, I tend to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/what-is-rem-sleep-and-how-can-i-get-more-of-it\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/what-is-rem-sleep-and-how-can-i-get-more-of-it\" rel=\"noopener\">lose REM sleep<\/a> but get sufficient <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-to-get-more-deep-sleep\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-to-get-more-deep-sleep\" rel=\"noopener\">deep sleep<\/a>: that gives me energy to do all that I must.
