But as the multihyphenate raised a glass filled with one of her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/jennifer-lopez-launches-delola-spritzes--cocktails-301789612.html\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/jennifer-lopez-launches-delola-spritzes--cocktails-301789612.html\">new Delola spritzes<\/a> to toast with me via Zoom this week, I could see that she has a distinctly <em>chill<\/em> vibe.<\/div>\n<p>Lopez has been in the process of changing and evolving, she tells me, sharing that her new line of ready-made cocktails is part of a larger shift in her lifestyle and personal goals. She says she&#8217;s shaking off some of her rigidity in favor of a more joyous, playful side\u2014a version of herself that close family and friends nicknamed \u201cLola\u201d in the past, but that she\u2019s long kept hidden from the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLola existed when I was in my twenties,\u201d Lopez says. \u201cI was the girl dancing on the table\u2026 and then I became this super-focused, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/type-a-personality-test\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/type-a-personality-test\/\">type-A<\/a>, overachieving workaholic.\u201d Over the course of the past 10 to 15 years, though, she\u2019s realized that softening a little might do her soul some good. Today, at 53, JLo feels proud to be incorporating more balance in her life in an effort to (proverbially) &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bjgFH01k0gU\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bjgFH01k0gU\">Dance Again<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI realized my life was passing me by, I\u2019m in my fifties now, my kids are getting big,\u201d says Lopez. \u201cI needed to find more balance and learn how to enjoy myself a little bit more and relax, and also I needed to stop proving myself and putting all that pressure on myself that we do as women around the middle of our lives\u2014when we\u2019re at the height of our career, and we\u2019re raising kids, and we\u2019re superwomen.\u201d What Lopez needed most, she realized, was to chill out and have fun.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\u201cI got to this different point in my life where I was like, \u2018I need to laugh more,\u2019 \u2018I need to dance more,\u2019 and these are the keys to life and happiness.\u201d \u2014Jennifer Lopez<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And yes, drinking the occasional cocktail has become a part of that. Though Lopez has been adamant about avoiding alcohol in the past (largely for health reasons), she tells me that she\u2019s begun to enjoy a glass of ros\u00e9 (or the occasional white Russian or fruity spritz) every so often in recent years. (To be sure, recent science has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/europe\/news\/item\/04-01-2023-no-level-of-alcohol-consumption-is-safe-for-our-health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/europe\/news\/item\/04-01-2023-no-level-of-alcohol-consumption-is-safe-for-our-health\">squashed previous notions that a small amount of alcohol is <em>good<\/em> for you<\/a>.) But to focus on that is to miss Lopez\u2019s point with the launch\u2014which is more about the potential for finding a moment of joy when pouring the occasional drink or popping open a bottle with a group of loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Whereas Lopez once believed in an all-or-nothing approach to well-being, she\u2019s now wholeheartedly embracing balance\u2014not just when it comes to alcohol consumption, but also in terms of working out and sleeping and everything else she does to care for her body. \u201cBefore, I was like, \u2018I have to work out every single day, and I have to do this other thing, and I have to get all this sleep,\u2019 and that worked for me for a long time,\u201d she says, \u201cbut I got to a point where I just started questioning, \u2018Why do I put all these rules on myself?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the next act of her life, Lopez says, if she \u201chas anything else to offer to the world,\u201d it\u2019s the importance of being balanced and being consistent when it comes to well-being. \u201cYou don&#8217;t want to not work out at all, and you don&#8217;t want to work out every single day; you want to say, \u2018Let\u2019s see if I can accomplish three or four days a week of working out.\u2019\u201d And the same goes for her approach to sleep: \u201cSometimes, you\u2019re going to go to bed late, and sometimes, you\u2019re going to get up real early, and you might not get the hours you need\u2014but that\u2019s okay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the impetus for this new laid-back approach to well-being, Lopez cites the natural changes that come with getting older. \u201cIt\u2019s about being in tune with yourself and learning to change along with those changes, which I think is the hardest thing for people to accept,\u201d she says. You have to feel comfortable getting to know yourself, she adds, in order to embrace every part of you. And as for Lopez going forward?
