However, \u201cmost people [write a] gratitude journal at the end of the day,\u201d says DeSteno. \u201cThat&#8217;s great, but that means you&#8217;re going to feel grateful for 20 minutes before you go to bed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whereas, if you want your gratitude to influence your daily activities and interactions, you\u2019ll want to incorporate it earlier in your routine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He references a practice in Judaism called &#8220;Nisim B&#8217;chol Yom&#8221; (which translates to \u201cmiracles of the everyday\u201d), in which people give thanks frequently during the day. \u201cThere are all these very brief blessings you can give for lots of things\u2014a beautiful sunset, your health, a beautiful painting, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-to-sleep-through-the-night-without-waking-up\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.mindbodygreen.com\/articles\/how-to-sleep-through-the-night-without-waking-up\" rel=\"noopener\">good night&#8217;s sleep<\/a>, whatever it is,\u201d DeSteno explains. \u201cIt makes you microdose gratitude throughout the day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s currently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.templetonworldcharity.org\/projects-database\/30283\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"mbg-track-event\" data-track-event-types=\"click\" data-track-type=\"article-link\" data-track-prop-element-id=\"in-body-link\" data-track-prop-label=\"page_type | element_id\" data-track-prop-category=\"Link\" data-track-prop-link=\"https:\/\/www.templetonworldcharity.org\/projects-database\/30283\" rel=\"noopener\">spearheading a study<\/a>\u2014which will likely publish later this year\u2014to discover whether this \u201cmicrodosing\u201d approach is more effective than practicing gratitude right before you go to sleep.
