Have an open and patient mindset<\/h3>\n<p>First and foremost, having <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/emotional-resilience\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/emotional-resilience\/\">an open and willing mindset is vital to cultivating a sense of resilience<\/a>. \u201cYou need to have unwavering confidence in your mental strength to never give up on what you want to achieve,\u201d says Lentin.<\/p>\n<p>From there, it&#8217;s important to have patience with yourself regarding the challenge at hand. \u201cSome challenges take years or decades to overcome,&#8221; she says. &#8220;Have patience, take one step at a time, and don\u2019t worry about obstacles along your journey\u2014they\u2019re just detours along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>2. Invest in your personal growth<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cYou need to grow your knowledge, skills, and experiences to help you reach your desired end,\u201d says Lentin. What this will require depends on the challenge at hand, but whether through reading books, taking seminars, going to therapy, or any other vehicle of personal advancement, there <em>is<\/em> one commonality of all growth initiatives for building resilience and overcoming challenges: The intention to make progress must start with you. \u201cThe desire for personal growth has to come from within you, so don\u2019t expect others to do it for you\u2014because they won\u2019t,\u201d she adds.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Avoid procrastination and start addressing it now<\/h3>\n<p>Facing hardships and challenges can be scary, but the common <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/causes-of-procrastination\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/causes-of-procrastination\/\">defense mechanism of procrastinating<\/a> or avoiding the situation altogether won&#8217;t help you. \u201cWhether you\u2019re looking to end the relationship, quit the bad habit, or have any goal in mind, you need to start now\u2014not tomorrow, not next year, not after you\u2019ve finished something else,\u201d says Lentin. \u201cTo make a change, you have to start now and keep working on making improvements every single day. Each day is about being just one percent better.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>4. Seek support<\/h3>\n<p>Having a good support network is crucial for building resilience and navigating life\u2019s challenges. Having people around you can serve as a reminder that you&#8217;re literally not alone. And if you can find a community of folks who have gone through a situation similar to yours, you can also be reminded that you&#8217;re the first person to feel as you do.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLean on your friends, and don\u2019t be shy to search outwards,\u201d says Lentin. \u201cThere are others who have had similar experiences and garnered knowledge and different skills that may help you. Knock on many doors to ask for help and accept the support they offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>5. Be prepared to change<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s human nature to suffer from metasthesiophobia, aka a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/feelings-that-accompany-change\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/feelings-that-accompany-change\/\">fear of change and the unknown<\/a>. Even so, it&#8217;s often an inevitable component of navigating life&#8217;s challenges\u2014and being open to change is a key component of building resilience.
