After all, the cult-favorite beverage might be best known for its energy-boosting abilities, but it\u2019s a laxative, too.<\/p>\n<p>This is important to keep in mind because, as soul-nourishing as it may feel to sip on an iced coffee while walking through a farmer\u2019s market or embarking on your daily <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/hot-girl-walks\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/hot-girl-walks\/\">hot girl walk<\/a>, the practice can lead to a potentially shitty situation\u2014literally. Combining the two makes it even more likely that you\u2019ll find yourself in a situation where you gotta go <em>right <\/em><em>now<\/em> (even though you might be far from a toilet).<\/p>\n<p>A study published in <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/18350336\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/18350336\/\"><em>Diseases of the Colon &amp; Rectum<\/em><\/a> found that consuming caffeine in water led to an earlier need to poop than drinking the same amount of water sans caffeine. Because, we\u2019re not gonna lie\u2014heading out for a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/morning-walks\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/morning-walks\/\">morning walk<\/a> to the coffee shop, or with our favorite travel mug in hand, is a truly delightful way to start the day. Fortunately, there are a few strategies you can use so you don\u2019t have to skip it altogether.<\/p>\n<h3>Time your coffee and cardio post-poo<\/h3>\n<p>If you know things typically get moving in the morning, Dr. Nazareth suggests waiting until after you\u2019ve done your business to head out for a walk.<\/p>\n<h3>Stick to a single cup of coffee<\/h3>\n<p>That way you aren\u2019t overloading your system with caffeine or stimulating those digestive-boosting hormones and acids quite so much.<\/p>\n<h3>Steer clear of dairy milk and creamers<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cLactose can stimulate bowel movements, particularly if you are lactose intolerant,\u201d Dr. Nazareth says.<\/p>\n<h3>Opt for decaf<\/h3>\n<p>We know, this may feel like blasphemy to some, but it can help. \u201cWhile decaf still does contain some caffeine, it does not have as strong of a laxative effect as regular coffee,\u201d Dr. Nazareth says.<\/p>\n<h3>Experiment<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/does-hot-coffee-make-you-poop\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/does-hot-coffee-make-you-poop\/\">Some people<\/a> find that iced coffee doesn\u2019t affect their bowels with quite the same intensity as hot coffee.
