But the convenience of having your own stationary bike at home with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/most-popular-peloton-instructors\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/most-popular-peloton-instructors\/\">livestreaming classes<\/a>, as opposed to going to a studio with its own bikes, also comes with a risk: That any problems with the Peloton product end up being <em>your<\/em> problem.<\/div>\n<p>That\u2019s now the case for more than two million people who bought <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onepeloton.com\/shop\/bike\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.onepeloton.com\/shop\/bike\">Peloton Original bikes<\/a> sold between January 2018 and May 2023. On Thursday, Peloton and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Recalls\/2023\/Peloton-Recalls-Two-Million-Exercise-Bikes-Due-to-Fall-and-Injury-Hazards\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Recalls\/2023\/Peloton-Recalls-Two-Million-Exercise-Bikes-Due-to-Fall-and-Injury-Hazards\">announced a recall of the Peloton Original model<\/a> due to safety problems with the bike\u2019s seat. There have been 35 instances of the seat breaking, posing a fall and injury risk. One person reported a fractured wrist, while others had bruising and lacerations.<\/p>\n<p>This isn\u2019t Peloton\u2019s first rodeo with a recall. In 2021, Peloton announced a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Newsroom\/News-Releases\/2023\/Peloton-Extends-Full-Refund-for-Consumers-with-the-Recalled-Tread-Treadmill-to-November-6-2023\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.cpsc.gov\/Newsroom\/News-Releases\/2023\/Peloton-Extends-Full-Refund-for-Consumers-with-the-Recalled-Tread-Treadmill-to-November-6-2023\">full recall of the Peloton Tread+<\/a>, after a child died in a related accident and there were dozens of other incidents.<\/p>\n<p>In that case, Peloton offered full refunds for the Tread+. But the Peloton bike recall just has to do with the bike\u2019s seat, which can be removed and replaced. Peloton will provide affected bike owners with a replacement seat for free. If you\u2019re not sure what model you have, you can check \u201cthe label located on the inside front fork (near the flywheel),\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.onepeloton.com\/press\/articles\/cpsc-recall\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.onepeloton.com\/press\/articles\/cpsc-recall\">says Peloton<\/a>. If it says \u201cPL-01\u201d on that label, you\u2019re eligible for the free replacement. Other characteristics of the affected bike include a red &#8220;P&#8221; logo followed by a white &#8220;Peloton&#8221; brand name on the bike&#8217;s frame, and a non-swiveling display.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the Peloton bike recall isn\u2019t great news for the brand, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/25\/business\/peloton-earnings-4q-2022.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/08\/25\/business\/peloton-earnings-4q-2022.html\">has struggled<\/a> as the world has opened back up after the height of the pandemic, and people have become less enamored of their at-home fitness options.
