In this video, learn what to expect during the cast removal process.
We use a special cast saw to safely cut off your child’s cast. While loud, your child will only feel vibration and gentle pressure — it won’t hurt. Once the cast is cut, we use a cast spreader to gently open it. Then, we carefully remove the padding with flat-edged scissors.

It’s normal for your child’s skin to look dry, flaky, lighter or darker than usual. Wash with warm water, mild soap and avoid scrubbing. If your child is not getting a new cast, you can apply fragrance-free lotion once or twice a day. Your child’s muscle may also look smaller because it needs time to rebuild, but some home exercises will help.
After your child’s cast is removed, seek medical attention if you notice spreading redness, swelling, warmth, worsening pain, drainage, skin irritation, sores, numbness or tingling.

To learn more about the Pediatric Orthopedics Institute, visit: https://www.childrenscolorado.org/doctors-and-departments/departments/orthopedics/
Connect with Children’s Colorado:
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/childrenscolo
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/childrenshospitalcolorado
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/children’s-hospital-colorado
Pinterest: https://www.pinterest.com/childrenscolo/
Website: http://www.childrenscolorado.org

source

Cast removal off is an exciting milestone.
