I also recap my upcoming events and special announcements so you can keep up with opportunities to learn, giveaways, discounts, and more!<\/em><\/p>\n<hr\/>\n<h4><strong>New Discoveries<\/strong><b\/><\/h4>\n<h4><b>Fasting, Calorie Cutting, or Surplus\u2014What Science Says About the \u201cSweet Spot\u201d for Fat Loss &amp; Muscle Gain \ud83c\udf7d\ufe0f\u23f0\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Intermittent fasting, time-restricted eating, calorie cutting, and volumetrics\u2014you&#8217;ve probably seen the diet wars rage on, but what does the actual research say about how these patterns affect your body composition?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Two new studies shed light on these strategies\u2014and the results might surprise you\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a 12-week <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/40533752\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">randomized trial<\/a>, researchers compared two diets: time-restricted eating (TRE, also known as intermittent fasting), where meals are consumed within an 8-hour window, and a volumetric diet, which emphasizes filling, low-calorie foods such as vegetables, soups, and other high-water-content foods.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Both groups lost fat, trimmed their waistlines, and preserved lean muscle mass. There was no difference in outcomes, showing time-restricted eating isn\u2019t a magical fat-burning hack; it just reduces calorie intake by shortening the eating window and making it harder to overeat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the flip side, if your goal is to build muscle while losing fat, another <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/31482093\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">study<\/a> suggests that this kind of body recomposition can be successfully achieved.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Researchers found that the sweet spot for most people lies in a 10\u201320% calorie surplus, just enough to fuel hypertrophy and recovery, but not so much that you add unwanted body fat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paired with proper resistance training, this <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mild surplus<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> supports measurable muscle growth while still allowing fat loss in some cases.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on the findings above, here are a few practical key takeaways\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83e\udd57 If fat loss is your goal:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Pick the eating pattern that helps you stick to a modest calorie deficit consistently (a reduction of about 300\u2013500 calories per day for most people), whether that\u2019s TRE, volumetrics, or another strategy.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Volumetrics works well if you like eating large, filling meals, while TRE works well if you prefer fewer eating windows and don\u2019t mind skipping breakfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>\ud83d\udcaa If muscle gain is your priority:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Avoid the old-school \u201cdirty bulk,\u201d in which the focus is mainly on eating as many calories as possible.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A small, controlled surplus of about 10\u201320% over your maintenance amount of calories (or about an extra 200\u2013400 calories per day) paired with lifting gets the job done without the fluff.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Above all, sustainability beats extreme hacks.
