{"id":14906,"date":"2025-08-16T00:44:46","date_gmt":"2025-08-15T17:44:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/loudhdtv.com\/?p=14906"},"modified":"2025-08-16T00:44:46","modified_gmt":"2025-08-15T17:44:46","slug":"the-tmp-panel-discuss-squats-as-a-quad-training-staple","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loudhdtv.com\/?p=14906","title":{"rendered":"The &#8216;TMP&#8217; Panel Discuss Squats as a Quad Training Staple"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Dennis James was joined by his regular pals Milos Sarcev and Chris Cormier for episode 234 of The Menace Podcast, and this week they were joined by the 2025 Tampa Pro, and Texas Po winner, Jordan Hutchinson, to discuss the role of squats for developing the quads.<\/p>\n<p>Hutchinson told the TMP panel that when guys get to a certain size, he advises them to \u201cstop with the core bracing barbell squats, and front squats, and smith squats, and pull some weight off on the hack squats.\u201d Instead, he looks for leg movements that are more favored for time under tension such as the leg press or leg extension.<\/p>\n<p>The Men\u2019s Open competitor, who has now qualified for the 2025 Mr Olympia event, said that he follows his own advice, and that\u2019s all the proof that many aspiring bodybuilders might need, considering his recent success.<\/p>\n<p>Chris Cormier concurred with Hutchinson\u2019s approach. \u201cSame thing I keep trying to tell Milos,\u201d he explained. Milos Sarcev responded that Hutchinson has some of the \u201cbest quads in the business\u201d right now, but he did want to make sure that the younger guys listening understood the importance of the squat from his point of view. \u201cWhen you are young, you have to (back barbell) squat, no question,\u201d enthused \u2018The Mind.\u2019 \u201cAt a certain point, when you get that base, and size, okay, you don\u2019t have to continue because you may end up with a hip replacement, like I am,\u201d he added. \u201cBut (then you should move on to) hack squats, or pendulum squats, or V-squats or whatever, that\u2019s the core.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"link-related article link-related__with-thumb\">\n\t\t\t<a class=\"article__thumbnail\" href=\"https:\/\/www.muscleandfitness.com\/flexonline\/training\/jordan-hutchinsons-push-day-workout-mr-olympia-contenders-chest-shoulders-triceps-routine\/\" target=\"_blank\"><\/p>\n<figure class=\"article__figure\">\n<div style=\"padding-bottom:56%;\" class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.muscleandfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Jordan-Hutchinson-performing-his-upper-body-workout-targetting-his-chest-shoulders-and-tricep-muscles.jpg?w=150&amp;h=84&amp;crop=1&amp;quality=86&amp;strip=all\" srcset=\"\" sizes=\"auto, 280px\" alt=\"Jordan Hutchinson performing his upper body workout targetting his chest shoulders and tricep muscles\" width=\"150\" height=\"84\" data-fallback-img=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.muscleandfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Jordan-Hutchinson-performing-his-upper-body-workout-targetting-his-chest-shoulders-and-tricep-muscles.jpg?quality=86&amp;strip=all\"\/><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>\t\t<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Jordan Hutchinson Pre-Exhausts His Legs to Make His Squats Safer<\/h2>\n<p>\u201cThe leg press cannot be the core of your (quad) training,\u201d continued Sarcev, who went on to joke that a quad workout without any form of squat was, let\u2019s just say, not manly enough for him! Hutchinson said that he agreed with Sarcev\u2019s point \u201cone hundred percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Olympia contender also elaborated that during his recent preps, he ran hack squats and pendulum squats as his main movements for the quads but shared that he also threw in other leg movements such as adductors, leg extensions, and leg curls so that they could play a role in pre-exhausting his legs before squatting. \u201cSo, I don\u2019t have to throw eight plates on the pendulum squat,\u201d he explained, in an attempt to protect his joints. \u201cBecause I gotta save my knees.
