M\u00e9ndez, 43, is <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/06\/20\/sports\/bodybuilder-she-hulk-beaten-to-death-with-hammer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thought to have been killed by repeated \u201chammer blows,\u201d<\/a> while her husband Jarrod Gelling, 46, was discovered with stab wounds that appear to be \u201cself-inflicted\u201d say police.<\/p>\n<p>While autopsies will provide further clarity on the tragic events that unfolded in Malaga, reports say that a friend reported M\u00e9ndez missing after family members and gym partners became concerned by her absence. When police visited the rented property on June 19, in Fuengirola\u00a0 on the Costa del Sol in the province of Malaga, Spain, they found M\u00e9ndez apparently killed with a hammer, while <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/bodybuilder-zunilda-hoyos-mendez-killed-in-hammer-attack-husband-dies-by-suicide-11758181\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">her husband had wounds consistent with suicide by knife<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>M\u00e9ndez Was Hoping to Celebrate a Bodybuilding Achievement<\/h2>\n<p>Family members had grown increasingly concerned for M\u00e9ndez\u2019s welfare, explained her niece, Yuleydis in an interview with the outlet, SUR, explaining that the female bodybuilder had been fearful of her husband\u2019s increasingly controlling nature and was readying for a divorce. \u201cFor my aunt, it was her last trip with him, a farewell,\u201d said Yuleydis. \u201cShe had decided to divorce him because of her husband\u2019s aggressive behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/brandenmray\/?hl=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">M\u00e9ndez\u2019 bodybuilding coach, Branden Ray<\/a>, was also devastated by the tragic deaths. \u201cWe had 17 days until we were going to hit the stage and shock the world, my friend,\u201d he wrote via an Instagram story. \u201cI told you that you could possibly be top 10 in the world by the end of this year, and I meant it.
