The event, weaving through London\u2019s iconic landmarks, saw elite athletes and everyday heroes redefine limits with a vibrant mix of speed, endurance, and charity-driven feats. Here are some of those record-breaking efforts from an unforgettable day.<\/p>\n<h3>Tigst Assefa Broke the Women\u2019s-Only Marathon World Record<\/h3>\n<p>In the Women\u2019s Elite race, Ethiopia\u2019s Tigst Assefa,28, rewrote history by smashing the women\u2019s-only marathon world record, finishing in just 2:15:50. This sliced 26 seconds off <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Peres_Jepchirchir\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peres Jepchirchir\u2019s 2024 London Marathon record of 2:16:16<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>Jacob Kiplimo set a Ugandan Marathon Record<\/h3>\n<p>In the Men\u2019s Elite Race, Uganda\u2019s Jacob Kiplimo, who is 24, stole the spotlight in his marathon debut, setting a Ugandan national record of 2:03:37 and reaching second place. Already known for his 2025 Barcelona half-marathon world record (56:42), <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jacob_Kiplimo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kiplimo transitioned from track and cross-country<\/a>, showcasing speed that hints at a future challenge to the sub-two-hour mark.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Huge congratulations to Angus Leckonby \u2728 He ran the fastest marathon (male) (II1), and is the new youngest person to complete a marathon (II1) (male) in 3:36:38 \u2013 what an achievement! \ud83d\udc4f <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LondonMarathon?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LondonMarathon<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/HgZxvtHabz\">pic.twitter.com\/HgZxvtHabz<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Guinness World Records (@GWR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GWR\/status\/1916514122444771593?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 27, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h3>Angus Leckonby Sets Record for Intellectually Disabled Runners<\/h3>\n<p>Leckonby, 22, hoped to raise \u00a310,000 for Special Olympics Team GB, thanks to his successful effort of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cr46x06rx59o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">setting a new intellectually disabled race record of 3:36: 38<\/a>, and also becoming the youngest person to do so.<\/p>\n<p>Other incredible achievements saw BBC Radio host, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/sport\/2023\/apr\/23\/adele-roberts-becomes-fastest-woman-to-run-london-marathon-with-stoma-bag\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Adele Roberts become the fastest woman to complete the London Marathon (3:30:22) with a stoma bag<\/a>,\u00a0 in addition to the usual display of inspirational athletes defying the odds while wearing challenging costumes to raise awareness for their cause. Then there was the usual light relief, like \u201cFastest marathon dressed as a traffic cone,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.guinnessworldrecords.com\/news\/2025\/4\/all-the-records-broken-at-the-tcs-london-marathon-2025\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">won by Michael Wiggins in 3:13:18<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With a record 840,318 ballot entries and over \u00a31.3 billion raised for charity since 1981, the 2025 London Marathon continues to blend elite excellence with personal triumphs, once again reimagining the human potential.
