{"id":13387,"date":"2025-02-22T00:17:32","date_gmt":"2025-02-21T17:17:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/loudhdtv.com\/?p=13387"},"modified":"2025-02-22T00:17:32","modified_gmt":"2025-02-21T17:17:32","slug":"the-health-hazards-of-greed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loudhdtv.com\/?p=13387","title":{"rendered":"The Health Hazards of Greed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js?client=ca-pub-3711241968723425\"\r\n     crossorigin=\"anonymous\"><\/script><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How much money do you need to be happy?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019ve found that the most common answer is some variation of\u2026 \u201cjust a littleeeee more\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just a little more in my savings account and I\u2019ll be happy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just a little bigger house and I\u2019ll be happy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just a slightly nicer car and I\u2019ll be happy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just a couple more outfits, pairs of shoes, pieces of jewelry and I\u2019ll <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">finally<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> be happy.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With this sort of mindset, we are always just out of reach of happiness.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scripture has a LOT to say about the danger of greed. One passage warns us that loving wealth puts us in a perpetual state of dissatisfaction:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhoever loves money never has enough;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ecclesiastes 5:10<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greed is a threat to our health and happiness. It results in serious physical, emotional and spiritual consequences. Today I want to discuss how harmful greed is in our lives, as well as provide strategies to protect ourselves from its grasp.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h3><b>Physical Repercussions\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greed places us in a\u00a0 long-lasting state of discontent, driving chronic stress responses in the body. In times of discontentment, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stress hormones like cortisol flood the system, contributing to a range of health issues including high blood pressure, weakened immune function, and cardiovascular disease.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, the constant pressure to accumulate more can lead to unhealthy lifestyle habits such as poor diet, inadequate sleep, and lack of exercise, further magnifying health problems.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A study published by the National Institutes of Health reported that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC10451323\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">greedy people are especially impulsive decision-makers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Impulsive decision-making frequently manifests in risky health behaviors (such as smoking, drinking, and reckless driving) and poor dietary choices (such as binge eating or cravings for processed foods high in sugar and salt).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3\/>\n<h3><b>Emotional Strain<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Holding material gain as your primary focus can erode your mental and emotional resilience. It is known to fuel anxiety, depression and a pervasive sense of dissatisfaction.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a society obsessed with status symbols and social media, it\u2019s easy to fall into the trap of measuring our worth by the things we own or the achievements we\u2019ve amassed. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The relentless \u201cmore, more, more\u201d attitude can create a cycle of comparison and competition which is SO DANGEROUS to our well-being! Not only does comparison deplete our self-esteem, but it can tear apart our relationships.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Another study published by the National Institutes of Health found that <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">those who report the highest levels of happiness tend to have the strongest interpersonal relationships. In other words, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/37426942\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">strong social connections improve happiness<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> more than wealth or material possessions.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greed can drive a wedge between friends, family members, and colleagues, as individuals prioritize their own interests over the well-being of others. The pursuit of profit can overshadow empathy, compassion, and altruism, leaving us feeling isolated and disconnected from those around us.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3\/>\n<h3><b>Spiritual Ruin\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What comes to mind when you hear the name Judas? Regardless of where you are in your faith journey, I have a feeling you know Judas is the man who betrayed Jesus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But do you know <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">why<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> he betrayed Jesus?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scripture does not discuss Judas in-depth, but we do know that he was one of the original 12 apostles. He heard Jesus\u2019 teachings and witnessed Jesus\u2019 miracles. He was also in charge of the finances and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=john+12%3A4-6&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">John 12: 4-6 <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0tells us that he often embezzled money for himself.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Judas fell to the temptation of greed. At some point, he decided that he needed more than God had given him. So, for 30 pieces of silver, he betrayed our Savior. This is the spiritual impact of greed \u2013 It turns our hearts away from God, the giver and provider of all.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">No where in scripture does it say we should judge or condemn others. That job belongs to God alone. But Scripture does warn us, MANY times, to watch out for greed in our lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThen [Jesus] said to them, Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Luke 12:15\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Greed is a disease. Luckily, God has given us all we need to protect ourselves from it. <strong>Thankfulness<\/strong>, <strong>prayer<\/strong>, and <strong>reading your\u00a0Bible<\/strong> are three of the most powerful antidotes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I am a huge fan of using my workout time to center my mind on God.
