Just ask dating coach <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/datingbyblaine\/\">Blaine Anderson<\/a>, who met her husband while working out one day at Barry\u2019s in San Francisco in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy husband approached me after class one day and mentioned he saw me there often and wanted to introduce himself,\u201d Anderson tells <em>Muscle &amp; Fitness<\/em>. \u201cMy tone was friendly, but I literally asked him, \u2018Oh, do you work here?\u2019 Later he said he felt really embarrassed, but in the moment, he played it off as no big deal.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe said he didn\u2019t work there but wanted to say hello. We had a brief and friendly conversation and went on our way, and from that point on, when we\u2019d see each other at Barry\u2019s a couple times a week, we\u2019d have a friendly conversation. She and her now husband ended up dating for two years before getting engaged and subsequently married and in June 2022.<\/p>\n<p>Her personal experience has now prompted her to create a step-by-step guide on what to do if you want to strike up a conversation with your potential soulmate at the gym. She gives her tips and tricks off of her own personal journey, like when to finally make your move.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA workout setting is a \u201csafe space\u201d for many people, so instead of going straight for the ask, focus on getting to know the other person and building trust over a few conversations,\u201d she says. \u201cBy doing this, you may be able to eliminate them as a romantic candidate before asking them out.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-caption \">\n<div style=\"padding-bottom:55.36519386835%;\" class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.muscleandfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Untitled-design-14-2.jpg?quality=86&amp;strip=all\" srcset=\"\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" alt=\"couple training together\" width=\"1109\" height=\"614\" data-fallback-img=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.muscleandfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/Untitled-design-14-2.jpg?quality=86&amp;strip=all\"\/><\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"credit\">4 PM production<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h3>Be Outgoing\u2014Overly Aggressive\u2014in Finding Your Soulmate at the Gym<\/h3>\n<p>Anderson adds it\u2019s important to be direct yet not be TOO bold in finding your possible soulmate in the gym.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf, after a few solid conversations, things are going well, be direct and ask them out,\u201d she adds. \u201cIf the answer is anything but an enthusiastic yes, it\u2019s a no and you shouldn\u2019t ask again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, f you\u2019re not sure if your crush is single or not because they aren\u2019t wearing a ring on that particular finger, don\u2019t let that deter you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhether or not someone is wearing a ring is out of your control, so don\u2019t overthink it,\u201d Anderson recommends. \u201cJust start a friendly conversation to get to know them. By asking questions like, \u2018Have anything fun going on this weekend?\u2019 you\u2019ll give them the opportunity to mention a partner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Even though life is so busy, timing is everything. If you\u2019re serious about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.muscleandfitness.com\/women\/dating-advice\/7-ways-get-swiped-right-tinder-and-other-dating-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">finding love with someone off an app<\/a> and in real life, build some extra time to talk to someone and utilize the gym\u2019s social areas to strike up a conversation or even have an impromptu first date.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are sick of relying on dating apps to meet dates, and someone who goes to your gym likely shares a similar lifestyle, schedule, and values,\u201d says Anderson. \u201cFor example, if someone is also at the gym in the morning, you can assume they weren\u2019t out late partying the night before.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrying to start a conversation in the middle of class can be tough, unless there is an obvious break. Instead, focus on arriving a few minutes early to chat with people before class or hang out after.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[Some] studios that have smoothie bars are great for mingling after class. You can always use the conversation starter, \u2018What did you think of class?\u2019 to get the ball rolling!<\/p>\n<h3>Why the Gym is the ideal Spot in Finding Your Partner<\/h3>\n<p>Gyms are seeing the return of their clients meeting in real life too, and are trying to help clients get more out of class than just a six pack.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have a community of people who all come together over a shared interest and commonality,\u201d Vicki Land, SVP of Brand and Comms at Barry\u2019s, says. \u201cThese environments are a great way to be social and make connections without being in a bar or night life setting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Now that she\u2019s officially found love in the gym, Anderson is on to her next chapter and paying it forward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re expecting our first baby in February,\u201d she says, adding she\u2019s also offering VIP matchmaking and setting people up on dates as a part of her business of finding her clients the perfect soulmate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m so grateful that I found my husband at the gym.
