Here, we’re changing the future of adult congenital heart disease and improving quality of life for all patients living with CHD, no matter their age.

Thanks to remarkable advancements in care for congenital heart defects (CHD), the majority of babies born with even the most complex heart disease are surviving into adulthood. Fortunately, more and more children with CHD are growing up to lead full, active lives as adults.

Though this represents incredible progress, we also know that adults with congenital heart disease, called ACHD, need continued monitoring throughout their lifetime. Many will need further surgical or medical interventions from doctors trained in both adult and pediatric cardiology to feel their best. Watch how three ACHD patients – Chris, who has transposition of the great arteries, Don who has congenital aortic stenosis, and Melanie who has a heart murmur and bicuspid aortic valve – found the Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program at Children’s Colorado and receive cardiology care unique to them.

00:01 How Chris, Don and Melanie learned of their congenital heart defects
01:01 What is adult congenital heart disease (ACHD)?
02:05 How we care for patients with ACHD
03:47 Comprehensive, multidisciplinary ACHD care and services
05:44 About the joint program between Children’s Colorado and University of Colorado Hospital on Anschutz Medical Campus
06:53 Access to care: digital tools, regional outreach clinics and telehealth options
08:10 Transitioning from pediatric to adult congenital heart care
09:31 What to look for in an ACHD center: volumes, outcomes and patient safety measures
10:25 How research and innovation improve care and quality of life
11:13 How Melanie, Chris and Don are doing now

Learn more about how we care for patients with ACHD in our Heart Institute: https://www.childrenscolorado.org/doctors-and-departments/departments/heart/programs-and-clinics/adult-congenital-heart-disease/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=slg_heart

Connect with Children’s Colorado:
Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/childrenscolo
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/childrenshospitalcolorado
Twitter: https://twitter.com/ChildrensColo
LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/children’s-hospital-colorado
Website: http://www.childrenscolorado.org

source

At Children’s Hospital Colorado, our nationally ranked Heart Institute provides lifelong care for patients with congenital heart defects, starting with care in-utero through our Fetal Cardiology Program to lifetime care through our renowned Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program.
