So all-or-nothing thinking will doom you to rarely feel successful\u2014fueling a ton of frustration and self-criticism.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">All-or-nothing thinking <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">makes every decision a choice between two extremes and eliminates all other possibilities.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Essentially, you\u2019re telling yourself that you\u2019ve got to choose to: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(A) Do ALL THE THINGS and go so hard that you <a href=\"https:\/\/fitbottomedgirls.com\/2016\/02\/5-sneaky-signs-that-youre-approaching-burnout\/\">burn out<\/a> and feel exhausted; o<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">r <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(B) do absolutely nothing and sabotage all your past efforts toward your goal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But what if there was another way? Instead of choosing between relentless effort or complete inaction, what if we embraced a third option\u2014doing <em>some<\/em>thing? What if you could give yourself permission to strategically \u201chalf-ass\u201d some things in your life and <em>actually<\/em> make progress toward your goals instead of feeling like you always need to start over?<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve helped lots of women break free from the grip of all-or-nothing mindset using the simple and effective <strong>A.C.T. Formula<\/strong>. Don\u2019t worry, I\u2019ll walk you through it.<\/p>\n<h2>How to Recognize Your All-or-Nothing Mindset<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Somewhere along the lines, many of us learned that our value is determined by how much we do. And, if so, you might be holding<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> an underlying belief that the more you do, the more people will value you. This can lead to an approach to life that only your 100% efforts are valuable.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But. let\u2019s face it, 100% efforts are the exception, not the rule. Most days you won\u2019t have 100% to give to one thing, let alone multiple things. No one can keep <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pressing the gas pedal to the floor without needing a break or having it forced on them from burnout, illness, or injury.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>So if you believe that only 100% efforts are valuable and worth doing, you won\u2019t take action when you can\u2019t complete the task perfectly, do the whole workout with the same or heavier weights you did last time, or cook the perfect \u201chealthy\u201d meal.<\/p>\n<p>If you<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> rely on the perfect circumstances to stay committed to your goals, you won\u2019t be taking a whole lot of action because<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0we all know that life rarely gives us PERFECT circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/milestogoathletics.com\" class=\"external\" rel=\"nofollow\">my experience as a coach<\/a>, it looks a lot like this:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI don\u2019t have a full hour to exercise, so I\u2019m not going to go to the gym.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI already ate like crap on Friday, so there\u2019s no point in trying to eat healthy for the rest of the weekend.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">\u201cIf I can\u2019t finish cleaning the closet today, then I\u2019m not going to start.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">\u201cI\u2019ve already missed two daily walks this week so I\u2019ll skip the rest and start over next week.\u201d<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Long-term, sustainable improvements in health, fitness, and personal growth are always incremental, done one small step-at-a-time. The all-or-nothing mindset keeps you from taking small steps which means you don\u2019t progress. And when you are able to rally, take massive action, and leap ahead, you can\u2019t sustain it because you can\u2019t replicate that big leap every day or even every other day for very long.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The emotional result of the all-or-nothing mindset? <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A shame spiral <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that keeps you stuck and perpetuates the all-or-nothing thinking that got you here.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2>How to Break Free From All-Or-Nothing Mindset<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The great news is that you CAN change this cycle by committing to three simple steps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Awareness +\u00a0Compassion + Think differently = the A.C.T. Formula.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In each moment of choosing to follow through with a commitment, run through these 3 steps:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Bring AWARENESS to your thinking.<\/strong> Acknowledge the thoughts that are causing you to think your only options are to do it all perfectly or skip it altogether. See what\u2019s really going on with <\/span><i>curiosity<\/i>. \u201cWow, I had a really hard time saying no today. I ended up taking on SO MUCH MORE than I really wanted to. That\u2019s super interesting.\u201d Or\u2026 \u201cI feel the urge to throw out my goal of 8000 steps for the day because it\u2019s already noon and I haven\u2019t left the couch.\u201d Actively <i>notice<\/i> that this is happening.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>Have COMPASSION for these thoughts instead of judging them. <\/strong>Now that you have drawn awareness to the all-or-nothing-ness, consider how you would you respond to a friend who was in your shoes? We\u2019re quick to judge our own thoughts, but would have 10x more compassion if it were a friend. Be a friend to yourself. There\u2019s a part of you that really just wants to be noticed, acknowledged, and seen without judgement.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>THINK about the situation differently. <\/strong>Take a logical approach. Ask yourself:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What am I afraid will happen if I don\u2019t do this perfectly? <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do I think will happen if it\u2019s only partially completed now?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">How can I adjust my original commitment to fit my current circumstances?\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe you add in a fistful of veggies and protein to your next meal even though you had cake and pizza at your daughter\u2019s birthday party last night.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe you put on your fav 2000\u2019s throwback songs and have a dance party in your room for 10 minutes to get your heart rate up even though you overslept and don\u2019t have a full hour to hit the gym.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>You\u2019ve got this, babe!<\/h2>\n<p>Breaking free from the all-or-nothing mindset is about embracing the power of imperfect, incremental progress. By recognizing that every small step counts and by allowing ourselves to be human, we can dismantle the rigid expectations that keep us stuck and stressed.<\/p>\n<p>The A.C.T. Formula\u2014Awareness, Compassion, and Thinking differently\u2014offers a practical and empowering pathway to shift our mindset and cultivate sustainable personal growth.
