Her doctor diagnosed Indie and Scottie with twin-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS), a life-threatening condition created by abnormal blood vessel connections in identical twins that creates imbalanced blood flow and circulation. <\/p>\n<p>A couple days later, Tara and Cody were at our Colorado Fetal Care Center to meet our experts and develop a care plan. Two days after that, Tara had her first fetal surgery to correct the TTTS. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a whirlwind of four days,\u201d says Cody, Indie and Scottie\u2019s dad.<\/p>\n<p>Laser ablation surgery is only used for severe cases of TTTS. Tara needed a second laser ablation surgery because their TTTS was especially severe. But our maternal fetal medicine experts and fetal surgeons have a wealth of experience treating complex conditions like this, so they were prepared for the unexpected.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWherever we were in this journey,\u201d says Tara, \u201ceverybody there made me feel good. There wasn\u2019t one moment where I felt like I was in the wrong place.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tara felt reassured because we have one of the most skilled and experienced fetal care teams in the country and TTTS is just one of the many fetal conditions for which we perform complex fetal surgery.
