He was born with jejunal atresia, a rare type of obstruction in the small bowel. As a young girl, she was fascinated by his doctors\u2019 skills and courage. Now, as a pediatric surgeon, she helps give families the same peace of mind. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey gave him a lifetime,\u201d says Dr. Corkum. \u201cI get to show up to work every day and try to improve a full lifetime for patients and families.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>While Dr. Corkum performs surgeries daily, she understands it\u2019s often new and intimidating for patients and families.
