But if shedding pounds is your goal, what are the best fruits to eat for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/100-ways-to-lose-weight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">weight loss<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI recommend focusing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/14-high-fiber-foods-that-help-you-lose-weight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">high-fiber fruits<\/a> for those who are wanting to lose weight,\u201d says Diana Gariglio-Clelland, RD, a Washington-based dietician. \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/dietary-fiber\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fiber<\/a>\u00a0is beneficial for a multitude of reasons: It helps to keep us feeling satiated and promotes stable blood sugar levels, which translates to more stable energy levels.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fruit also gives you a lot of bang for your dietary buck \u2014 they\u2019re packed with vitamins, minerals, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/antioxidants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">antioxidants<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you\u2019re looking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/guide-how-to-lose-weight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">lose a few pounds<\/a>, you want to cut calories where you can, but keep maximum nutrients in your diet,\u201d says <a href=\"https:\/\/einsteinmed.edu\/faculty\/8079\/keith-ayoob\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keith-Thomas Ayoob<\/a>, RD, FAND, associate clinical professor emeritus at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City. \u201cThere are no \u2018bad\u2019 fruits, but those that provide lots of satiety with minimum calories are your best options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are a couple of ground rules when it comes to eating fruit for weight loss. Always opt for the whole fruit \u2014 with the skin on it, when appropriate \u2014 to get the most fiber. And accept no substitutes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSkip <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/is-dried-fruit-healthy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dried fruit<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/is-juice-healthy-or-unhealthy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fruit juices<\/a>, as they\u2019re more concentrated in sugar with less fiber,\u201d says Gariglio-Clelland. \u201cAvoid any fruit with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/natural-sugar-vs-added-sugar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">added sugars<\/a> [like some canned fruit], as well as smoothies made with sugary mixes. Cantaloupes are 90 percent water, so they\u2019ll quench your thirst and fill you up for a minimum of calories.<\/p>\n<p>Snack away, or get creative by dicing cantaloupe into a salsa to accompany grilled fish or chicken.<\/p>\n<h2>How Much Fruit Should You Eat for Weight Loss?<\/h2>\n<p>If you\u2019re trying to lose weight, the amount of fruit you should eat depends on your total <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/how-many-calories-do-you-need-to-eat-to-lose-weight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">calorie needs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf someone is on 1,200 calories a day to lose weight, then two servings of fruit per day is fine,\u201d says Ayoob. \u201cFor 1,500 calories, go for about three or four servings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt any rate,\u00a0don\u2019t cut out fruit entirely,\u201d he says. \u201cIt\u2019s too good for you and too enjoyable. If you go for melons and berries, they\u2019re pretty low in calories.
