Or maybe strict eating habits serve your goal of a fitter, leaner body. As distinctly different as these two types may seem, many people within each have adopted the same strategy: Eat the same thing every day.<\/p>\n<p>But can you really repeat the same food every day \u2014 or at every meal \u2014 and provide your body the most <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/balanced-meal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">complete nutrition<\/a> possible?<\/p>\n<h2>Eating the Same Thing for Every Meal: Good or Bad?<\/h2>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-168704\" src=\"https:\/\/bod-blog-assets.prod.cd.beachbodyondemand.com\/bod-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/28110020\/eat-the-same-thing-every-day-600-meal-prep.jpg\" alt=\"Food Containers for Meal Prep | is it bad to eat the same thing every day\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Those seeking a specific physical (or fiscal) goal may be tempted to simplify their every meal to a handful of selected foods. But eating the same meal multiple times throughout a day isn\u2019t recommended, says\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/education.utexas.edu\/faculty\/brittany_crim\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Brittany N. Crim<\/a>, Ph.D., director of Nutrition Services and Development at the University of Texas at Austin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to get all your\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/count-macros-for-weight-loss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">macros<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0micros\u00a0in the right proportion on a daily basis,\u201d she says. It\u2019s even harder when you give yourself just one type of meal with which to do it.<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re going to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/colorful-meal-prep-plan-with-recipes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u201ceat the rainbow,\u201d<\/a>\u00a0that requires consuming a variety of nutrients that are unlikely to all be represented in a single meal. You may be able to sustain life, the way they do in a clinical setting for people with conditions in which a patient has to be tube-fed for long periods, but you won\u2019t be thriving. And on a long enough timeline you\u2019re bound to experience deficiencies that may cause serious problems down the road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re inserting the same macronutrients and micronutrients in tube form, and sustaining life and health that way,\u201d says Crim. \u201cSo, yes you\u00a0<em>could<\/em>\u00a0eat the exact same thing all day, every day, as long as it was perfectly balanced with all the macros and micros that you need. Would I recommend that for people? No.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Eating the Same Meal Once Every Day: Good or Bad?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-168705\" src=\"https:\/\/bod-blog-assets.prod.cd.beachbodyondemand.com\/bod-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/28110205\/eat-the-same-thing-every-day-600-oatmeal.png\" alt=\"Bowl of Oatmeal | is it bad to eat the same thing every day\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>You can, however, follow a diet wherein you eat the same meal at some point every day, which is what most people do for breakfast or lunch, Crim says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t eat red meat every day, but that\u2019s my primary source of iron,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd I get enough iron for my week when I eat red meat, two servings a week.\u201d So if you eat the same breakfast every day, mix it up at lunch and dinner and with snacks.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is that any eating plan that doesn\u2019t provide all of the nutrients you need on a daily basis can have damaging consequences. As can getting\u00a0<em>too much<\/em>\u00a0of a given nutrient from overeating even \u201chealthy\u201d foods. For example, consuming too many carrots\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/books\/NBK534878\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">can turn your skin orange<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the upsides and downsides of keeping one meal the same every day:<\/p>\n<h3>Pros<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Easier to keep track of calories<\/li>\n<li>Less time making shopping and cooking decisions<\/li>\n<li>Easier to establish healthy eating habits<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Cons<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>May result in nutritional deficiencies<\/li>\n<li>May result in\u00a0<em>too much\u00a0<\/em>of a given nutrient<\/li>\n<li>Taste fatigue can discourage you from eating all or any of a meal, resulting in wasted food and money<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Having the flexibility to rotate at least a few of your meals is important in the long run. Better still is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/meal-prep-101-a-beginners-guide-to-meal-prep\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">planning a menu of meals for the week<\/a>, which provides some of the conveniences of meal simplification while offering a fuller nutrient profile.<\/p>\n<h2>Can Supplements Make Up for Nutritional Gaps?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-168706\" src=\"https:\/\/bod-blog-assets.prod.cd.beachbodyondemand.com\/bod-blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/28110225\/eat-the-same-thing-every-day-600-supplements.jpg\" alt=\"Variety of Supplements in front of Fruits | is it bad to eat the same thing every day\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\"\/><\/p>\n<p>But, you may say, I\u2019m able to pop a few multi-vitamins and some <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openfit.com\/cod-liver-oil\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">fish oil<\/a> every day, so my repetitious, and potentially detrimental, meal won\u2019t matter that much. Not so fast.<\/p>\n<p>Dietary supplements, though they do offer benefits\u00a0<i>if<\/i>\u00a0you are deficient in a certain vitamin or mineral, should not be used as a panacea.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m a firm believer in trying to eat your nutrients. We can supplement, but it\u2019s not going to be as effective as if you actually ate the food,\u201d Crim says. \u201cFood actually gives you more bioavailability of a nutrient so you\u2019re more likely to intake it and absorb it and utilize it effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Most micronutrients work synergistically, which means if you get them from a variety of sources, they\u2019re going to enhance their ability to work throughout the body and enhance their longevity in your system. \u201cSo taking one supplement may not be as beneficial as eating a big, beautiful salad that has 15 different varieties of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.beachbodyondemand.com\/blog\/antioxidants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">antioxidants<\/a>\u00a0in it.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1675549\">\r\n<\/div>\r\n<script>(function(w,q){w[q]=w[q]||[];w[q].push([\"_mgc.load\"])})(window,\"_mgq\");\r\n<\/script>\r\n\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Perhaps you find cooking a rewardless chore.
