Create a routine<\/h3>\n<p>Let\u2019s say you\u2019re a runner who is often <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/10k-training-plan\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/10k-training-plan\/\">training for races<\/a>. Taking an offseason\u2014and suddenly not having a training plan that dictates your schedule\u2014can throw your routine out of whack and make you feel untethered.<\/p>\n<p>But just because you aren\u2019t working toward a big goal doesn\u2019t mean you don\u2019t have a routine. Stressing yourself out about it negates the whole idea of taking an offseason, so focus on being consistent, she says, rather than whether you\u2019re doing it exactly right. \u201cWhen I\u2019m consistent, I\u2019m more motivated,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n<h3>3. Set small, process-oriented goals<\/h3>\n<p>A fitness offseason is a time to give yourself a break from those big, results-oriented goals that drive you at other times of the year, whether that\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/slow-marathon\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/slow-marathon\/\">running a marathon PR<\/a>, lifting heavier weights, or, in Leroux\u2019s case, winning games and championships.<\/p>\n<p>But you can still structure your time around smaller, process-oriented goals. Leroux\u2019s, for instance, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/protein-deficiency\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/protein-deficiency\/\">getting enough protein<\/a> every day to aid in her recovery, which usually looks like one of her go-to chocolate protein shakes after workouts.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re a runner taking an offseason to prioritize recovery, a process goal could look as simple as going to a yoga or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/pilates-runners-good-moves\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-vars-event=\"body text\" data-vars-click-url=\"https:\/\/www.wellandgood.com\/pilates-runners-good-moves\/\">Pilates class<\/a> twice a week to cross-train. Into weight-lifting and can feel your body asking for a break?
